Day 1

Stone's shoes were pulled on December 8, 2013.

He has basically very good feet, but significant flaring especially in the right hind, the hoof that once had a pebble lodge between the wall & laminae, travel up and emerge out the coronary band. You can see lines coming down from the CB on his lateral quarters, a remnant of this abscess. He also 'toes out' on that hoof. His stifles are a weak conformational link, with his right being the weaker of the two. (Chicken or egg?)

Regarding his shoes, the clips were hammered quite tightly to the hoof wall resulting in a 'pinch' that Stone was clearly feeling as it made the shoes difficult to pull. In hindsight, I recall this always being an issue when being re-shod. There was always a moment of obvious protest as the old shoes came off. (Abrupt hollowing of topline, head raised, ears back, tail swish, cranky face. All 4 feet, always at the moment of the final 'yank') I didn't realize before that it had to do with the pinching clips. Ouch.
